The small town of Calvià bears the same name as the municipality. The capital Palma is east of Calvià and is just under 20 kilometers away. Palma can be easily reached by car in less than half an hour. The inland city of Calvià has around 2,000 inhabitants and has a reputation for being very wealthy.
The municipality of Calvià has a total of 56 archaeological sites, which indicate that an important center of the population was located here early on.
Along with Palma, the municipality of Calvià was one of the central places with regard to the conquest of Mallorca in 1229.
